How can artificial intelligence and theoretical calculations drive innovation in materials R&D? On October 16, 2026, Fudar held the sixth session of its "Shuren Academy" training program. The session focused on "AI and Theoretical Calculations in Materials R&D: Recent Advances and Future Applications."
Aligned with Fudar's strategic goal of building an AI-enabled R&D framework, the training aimed to help R&D staff develop a structured understanding of how AI and theoretical calculations can be integrated into materials research. It also explored how research methods are evolving, offering ideas and insights for applying these approaches in practice.

Training in progress
Led by Liu Shaolong from the Artificial Intelligence Application Technology Department, the training began with an overview of how materials research is moving from traditional, experience-based trial and error toward data-driven approaches. It highlighted how accumulated data and intelligent analysis can help identify patterns in material properties and improve R&D efficiency.

The course then examined computational modeling and simulation methods, explaining how they can reveal relationships between material structure and properties at the microscopic level. These methods provide a theoretical basis for materials design, property prediction, and the refinement of experimental designs. The discussion also covered a more efficient R&D workflow that begins with calculations and proceeds to experimental validation.
AI's potential applications in materials property prediction, formulation design, and process optimization were another focus. The training examined how AI and theoretical calculations could work together to support innovation in materials R&D. Participants were encouraged to consider how these technologies could address practical research needs and enable smarter, more efficient research.
Shuren Academy provides a platform for professional development and technical exchange at Fudar. Previous sessions have covered technical skills, innovative thinking, and intellectual property management. This latest session broadened the program's scope by examining the growing role of AI in materials research.
Looking ahead, Shuren Academy will continue to align its training with Fudar's priorities for technological innovation and talent development. The program will keep pace with industry developments and technological advances while connecting technical learning with R&D practice. It aims to develop professionals with strong technical expertise, innovative thinking, and the ability to apply knowledge across disciplines. These efforts will support Fudar's ambition to move from leading the world in scale to leading it in technology.
